“It’s amazing what a little dedication and goal setting can do for someone,” AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys in an Instagram post on Thursday.

AJ McLean strives to be the best version of himself.

The Backstreet Boys singer, 44, shared several photos of himself shirtless on Instagram on Thursday, detailing in his post that he was committed to “#HealthyLifestyle.”

“I thought I’d recap a bit of Thursday’s mood,” McLean began. “I came across the image on the left while on vacation a year ago, and wow. It’s amazing what a little commitment and goal setting can do for someone.”

“But the journey is far from over. This is just the beginning!” he continued, adding the hashtags “#HealthyLifestyle,” “#Sober,” and “#NoMoreDadBod.”

“Let’s go! If I can, so can you!!” McLean ended his contribution. Back in 2020, McLean news opened up about his 20-year struggle with drug and alcohol addiction. And the hard work it took to maintain his sobriety, which he cited as a factor in his improving health in a social media post-Thursday.

“My wife and I always agreed that I couldn’t play with my kids if I smelled alcohol I couldn’t be near my kids. McLean said. “But what surprised me was when my youngest daughter Lyric said to me that night, ‘You don’t smell like my dad.'” And when he said that to me, that was it. Enough already. I feel disgusting.”

McLean says he found his purpose after this open interaction with his young daughter.

“It’s the clearest thing I’ve ever seen,” McLean said. “I brought myself – of course. My family saved my life, God saved my life, and my recovery saved my life. I wouldn’t be here without those three things.”

And even though his dad is gone, McLean is still in dad mode. His family is his motivation not only for his composure but also for new opportunities in his career. During his appearance at 90s Con in March, McLean opened up about his dream of acting on Broadway and what moving to New York meant for his family.

She added that a potential move would allow her two daughters to attend some “really great dance schools in New York,” adding, “They both fall apart. They love performing.”
