Liverpool boss Arne Slot says goalie Alisson Becker is doubtful about facing Bournemouth in Saturday’s Premier League match because of a muscle problem.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is a doubt for the upcoming Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday due to a muscle problem.

Alisson, who has been a crucial presence for Liverpool, featured in all of their four league games this season, as well as their recent Champions League victory against AC Milan.

Alisson’s Busy Schedule Raises Concerns

Alisson’s busy schedule has been a concern, as he has not only played for Liverpool but also for Brazil in the Copa America and during recent international fixtures.

The 31-year-old has previously commented on the intense fixture schedule, remarking that “nobody asks the players” about their workload.

Slot addressed Alisson’s fitness ahead of the Bournemouth clash, stating, “It is a doubt if Alisson can train on Friday. If he can’t, then he probably won’t play. We have to wait and see.”

Kelleher and Jaros on Standby

Alisson was notably absent from part of Liverpool’s training session that was open to the media, with goalkeepers Caoimhin Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros stepping in.

Kelleher has previously filled in for Alisson during his extended injury absence last season, when the Brazilian missed more than two months.

Slot elaborated on Alisson’s injury, noting, “He has a slight issue with one of his muscles, and we wonder if this game is too early or not. It didn’t happen in the Milan game but worsened afterward. We’ll have to wait and see if he will be in goal on Saturday.”

Liverpool’s Packed Fixture List

Liverpool is currently navigating a hectic schedule, playing seven matches in just 22 days. Despite this, Slot remains unfazed by the demands, comparing the English Premier League to his previous experiences in the Dutch Eredivisie.

“The Premier League has four extra games compared to the Eredivisie, and we also have the League Cup. But the main difference is we play during Christmas and New Year,” said Slot.

He further emphasized the heightened quality of the Premier League, noting that facing teams like Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth presents a far greater challenge than mid-table Eredivisie sides.

Liverpool will be hoping Alisson recovers in time, but Kelleher stands ready to step up if needed.
