A college football player in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has died in a car accident.
Eugene Quener, 23, captain of the Oral Roberts University football team, was involved in a fatal car crash Wednesday, the Tulsa Police Department said in a statement via Facebook.
Officials were notified of the crash at 71 and S. Yale at 10:20 p.m. local time.
“We have received several calls regarding the vehicle being completely burned out and someone is still in the vehicle,” the statement said.
A man driving an SUV tried to escape, but paramedics from EMSA were able to restrain him until officers arrived; according to authorities, it was quite difficult to push the car through the intersection. TPD later identified the Nissan driver as Quaynor.
Even though the witnesses tried to help Quenor out of his car, they couldn’t because the car burst into flames. They then took stones to break the window, “but the fire was too big,” said TPD. Quenor was already dead when the first responders arrived. There was no one in the car except him.
