Before the live adaptation of the series John Cho premiering on Netflix, John Cho spoke about his hopes and fears as intergalactic bounty hunter Spike Spiegel.
Speaking to Vulture, the actor revealed that one of his biggest concerns was the inevitable comparison with Shinichiro Watanabe’s anime. “The biggest fear is that I am too old. I know people will have problems with my age. And I have to deal with it … I will look different than a 2525-year-old one point, the odds are: “Yes or no – whether You want to do it?” And I want to do it. So I’m not going to stop.”
Before joining the show, Cho said that he was not actively filming scene after scene of the remake of the original series. “I don’t want to do it artistically and also think it’s a recipe for encouraging awkward comparisons.
So how can you do better? You can’t. You have to do something different,” he said.
He also commented on how he got original anime composer Yoko Kano to take over the review of the show. “I don’t think this show will continue without your participation. (He was) an integral part of the show. Our reduced iterations would suffer too much. “
Cowboy Bebop follows Spiegel, a bounty hunter, and a group of cowboys who hunt down the solar system’s most notorious villain and bounty in 2071.
The cast also includes Daniela Pineda as Faye Valentine, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black. And non-binary actor Mason Alexander Park as Gren described as gender fluid in the original anime. The Cowboy Bebop action series starring John Cho will be released on Netflix on November 19th.
