The 21-year-old Dixie D’Amelio TikTok star said she was diagnosed with PMDD. A chronic condition that can cause extreme mood swings and symptoms like depression, anxiety, irritability, insomnia and more.

Dixie D’Amelio has announced that she was recently diagnosed with the premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

On Tuesday, the 21-year-old TikTok star opened up about his health and the reasons for his brief hiatus from social media on Instagram Live.

“I don’t feel well, and I don’t know why,” he began. “I was recently diagnosed with something called PMDD, which is Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.”

PMDD, a more severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), is a chronic condition. That can cause extreme mood swings and symptoms such as depression, anxiety, irritability, insomnia, and more.

“It affects your mood and behaviour and many different parts of your life,” continues D’Amelio.

“I didn’t realize how much it affected me until I got to where I was last week.”

She says the condition “really disrupts” her life for two weeks each month, affecting her attitude, personality, relationships and anxiety. “I’ve never been so sad … and not knowing what’s wrong with me is very concerning,” he explained. “I felt like I had no control over my body or mind, and I didn’t know what was wrong, but it went on and off like a light switch.”

“It was very confusing for me because how can I feel good one day and not want to be here anymore?” continued D’Amelio, admitting that he had struggled with suicidal thoughts.

The social media influencer said his condition was something he had had for seven years but had just been diagnosed. “I’m so glad I found out what happened because now I can find a better way to manage my emotions.

“I feel better now, and I will probably experience the same thing next month and next month,” she added, sharing that she is still learning about PMDD.
