“I started writing it,” said Ed Sheeran of his dedication to the iconic theme song
Ed Sheeran didn’t give up on his dream of singing the James Bond theme song, even after missing out on his chance with Billie Eilish.
A guest star on the latest episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, the 31-year-old ‘Shape of You’ singer opened up about her opportunity to voice a Bond film.
Sheeran explained that he was close to his No Time To Die dream.
“They changed directors, and then they just changed the script, and that was it. We all had a meeting; I started writing it…” the singer said. When asked if he would like to sing another Bond theme song in the future, Sheeran said: “Yeah, sure. I wouldn’t pretend I wasn’t sick if I didn’t, but yes I would. If they come back, I’d say, “Yeah. , of course.”
Sheeran officials did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Eilish was later selected to record Bond’s official song, “No Time to Die,” in February 2020.
The ‘Bad Guy’ hitmaker, now 20, joined other stars such as Sam Smith and Adele to sing the James Bond theme, but Eilish was the youngest to do so. The song was produced by Eilish’s brothers, Phineas and Steven Lipson; Hans Zimmer and Matt Dunkley handled the orchestral arrangements, and Johnny Marr provided the guitars.
“It feels crazy to be a part of this in any way,” Eilish said in a statement at the time. “It is a great honor to write the theme song for a film part of such an iconic series. James Bond is the coolest film series of all time. I’m still in shock.”
