In a harrowing incident on a Massachusetts highway, an elderly driver, described as “extremely confused,” was captured on viral video going the wrong way during a snowstorm.
The 76-year-old man drove a 2015 Toyota Corolla for miles, narrowly avoiding collisions with oncoming traffic on Interstate-93 in Boston. Despite the dangerous situation, no injuries were reported.
Numerous 911 Calls Report Erratic Driving
Numerous 911 calls were made as concerned witnesses reported the erratic driver. State highway snow plow trucks eventually blocked the Corolla to bring it to a stop. The driver, who hails from Lynn, Massachusetts, claimed he “did not know where he was” when questioned by authorities. It was determined that the man was dealing with an underlying health condition, and he was not impaired.
Citation and License Suspension Issued
The police issued a wrong-way violation citation to the elderly driver and promptly suspended his license through an immediate threat notice with the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). The man’s car was towed to a police barracks in South Boston, and he was picked up by a friend. The incident highlights the potential risks associated with medical conditions affecting drivers and underscores the importance of addressing such concerns promptly to ensure road safety.
