On Monday, the pop-rock musician announced that he would embark on a Face the River tour in August and September, supporting his seventh studio album of the same name. DeGraw shared the news along with tour posters on social media and expressed his excitement over the show.
“It was great to be on the Face The River Tour in August and September. The excitement of a new album and the addition of new music to concerts makes the experience even better,” wrote DeGraw, 45, on Instagram. He continued, “Seeing people connect so strongly with material so personal to me has made performing these songs wrong. one of the greatest joys of my life. The pre-sale starts tomorrow at 10 am at the place with the code FACETHERIVER. All tickets go on sale this Friday, July 15.”
The tour begins August 20 in Clearwater, Florida, and ends September 13 in Madison, Wisconsin.
The “Summertime” singer released an album containing ten songs on May 20. At the time, DeGraw spoke to news about writing an album in 2020 after learning that his beloved father, John Wayne, was ill and likely wouldn’t live long.
“When the progression gets worse, it’s a race against time. I was hoping it would contact better, but then I was like, ‘Oh my God, if it doesn’t get better, I want him to hear it,'” DeGraw said. “I want him to hear it because it’s dedicated to them. That is the record.”
Shortly afterward, Wayne underwent open-heart surgery, followed by a minor stroke. He was eventually diagnosed with brain cancer also died in July 2020 after being able to hear Face the River, much to DeGraw’s relief.
“It was just this horrific sequence of events. [But] I felt like I just finished it and played it for him, which is important to me,” the musician said.
