Stefani returns as a coach for The Voice season 22, which premieres September 19
Being a trainer on The Voice sometimes means having participants cover your songs – and Gwen Stefani shares how she feels about those times.
While performing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Friday, the “Rich Girl” singer said she was honoured when a contestant decided to audition with one of her songs. However, things can get a little weird.
“I was so excited, but John Legend has a reputation for not pressing the button when someone plays one of his songs. And we were like, ‘John, you have to push your button. They play your song! Stephanie, 52, said about her co-coach. thought he was very scientific about it and he was blown away.” He added, “But people made mine. I can’t say when because it’s not out yet, but I know one season someone did it cool, and I wasn’t in that season, and Blake [Shelton] was like, ‘Oh my God, they made your song!’ It’s a really weird version of him, and that’s good. They always cover this event.”
There’s only one catch: “I love listening to them do it, I sometimes feel like because they’re so personal, the lyrics and then when they do all the fancy vocals on it, I’ll be like, ‘Oh… …that’s so strange,” he said.
However, he clarified that he ended up finding it “flattered.”
Stephanie announced her return to the show in May via a TikTok video. In the social media clip, Stefani sings Micah’s “Grace Kelly” with her husbands, Shelton, 46, and Legend, 43.
The show then announced that the fourth coach was none other than Camila Cabello.
Stephanie first joined The Voice in 2014 as a season 7 coach. After appearing as a part-time counsellor the following season, she coached again for season 9.
