Jeff Bridges talks about essential milestones.
In a recent interview with The Independent, the 72-year-old actor opened up about his health challenges before walking his daughter Hayley RoseLouise Bridges down the aisle at their wedding in August 2021.
Bridges were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October 2020 and contracted COVID-19 in January 2021. Later last year, he announced that his cancer was in remission.
Before her daughter’s wedding, “the first goal was how long I could stay straight,” she told The Independent.
According to the Oscar winner, he could only stand upright for 45 seconds. He then worked with a trainer to increase the number of steps he could take and stabilize his breathing while on oxygen support.
He revealed to the publication that working with the coach daily only pushed him to work harder. Bridges explain, “Finally, one day, I said, ‘Maybe I can, you know.'” And it turned out that not only did I have to walk her down the aisle, but I also got to do the wedding dance. It was so much fun.”
His daughter Haley married longtime sweetheart Justin Shane at Kestrel Park in Santa Ynez, California.
She shared with Brides that Bridges gave an acceptance speech that “touched a quality about Justin that I also mention in my vows, which is that kids and dogs love him,” adding, “I think that’s an example.” incredible energy.” Bridges told PEOPLE in May 2022 that she spent nearly five months in the hospital when her health problems were at their worst.
“I have no defense. That’s what chemotherapy does – it robs you of your entire immune system. I have nothing to fight against,” he said. “Covid has made my cancer look like nothing.”
