The actress and singer won her first Tony Award Sunday night when A Strange Loop won Best Musical. (Hudson, 40, is serving as the show’s producer.)

It was the last trophy he needed to complete the EGOT quartet and win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Hudson won the first of four significant Oscars in 2007 for her role in Dreamgirls. He is a two-time Grammy winner, having won his first album of the same name in 2009.

Last year’s American Idol alum won a Daily Emmy for the animated short Baba Yaga, which she co-produced and voiced.

Previously, when asked about his plans for EGOT status, Hudson joked, “I need two more dogs.”

“I took a dog and named it an Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I took a dog and named it a Grammy, and then I won my Grammy,” he said. “So I thought I should take some dogs and name them Amy and Tony – which would give me luck and win. [They’re] like my lucky charms.” Presented by the Broadway League and American Theater Wing, the annual Antoinette Perry Awards for Theater Excellence (Tony’s official title) recognizes the highest honors in U.S. theater – the equivalent of an Emmy, a music Grammy, or an Oscar of the film industry. Show Slam Grand Slam.

In the Best New Musical category, the coveted is Girl from the North Country, MJ The Musical, Mr. Saturday Night, Paradise Square, SIX: The Musical, and A Strange Loop are all vying for this year’s top prize.

She was hosted by Ariana DeBois, who earlier this year won an Oscar for the latest film adaptation of her favorite stage music, West Side Story.

The 2022 Tony Awards are broadcast live at Radio City Music Hall in New York on CBS and Paramount+.
