As expected from Daniel Lee’s tenure at Bottega Veneta, this collection was an experiment with scented textures. That resulted in crisp metallic shell-clad shirts, knitted bags, crisp sequins, puffy faux leather coats, and fluffy dresses for beach towels. When the show opened in a simple cocktail dress by Marilyn Monroe, Lee immediately began collecting limes. Two pieces of diamond-encrusted with bones under the bust, and a naked rain shirt.
The socially attractive gender of the trademark was softened by allowing concessions for technically indebted workers. Namely a hurricane jacket clipped to the shoulders for a sculptural effect or inflated with blue sleeves.
When Lourdes Leon hit the track, Lil Kim, Kehlani, Slowthai, Burna Boy, and Mary J Blige watched in many of the brand’s monstrous coats.
Bottega Veneta’s tentacles extend beyond the Midwest, drilling holes in London and Shanghai. Where they have created makeshift boutiques and enchanting mazes, respectively.
