LinkedIn Releases New Guide to Improve B2B Ad Attribution

LinkedIn has published a new B2B attribution guide designed to help marketers connect early buyer engagement signals with their ad strategies. The 18-page resource aims to improve how brands track what influences B2B purchase decisions and how they report on campaign performance.

Why B2B Tracking Is So Difficult

According to LinkedIn, B2B buying is lengthy and nonlinear, involving multiple stakeholders across dozens of touchpoints. Buyers move between channels, engage anonymously, consume content without clicking and increasingly rely on AI-powered tools to inform their choices. By the time an opportunity reaches the pipeline, many of the interactions that shaped the decision have already happened beyond the reach of traditional measurement systems.

This can lead to misattribution, causing brands to miss their most valuable opportunities. LinkedIn notes that only 33% of B2B marketers strongly agree they can prove to their C-suites that marketing has made an impact, while 75% say their measurement systems are falling short.

What the Guide Covers

To address these gaps, the guide outlines five frameworks marketers can use to better track promotional performance, each with a full, practical breakdown of the steps involved. It also includes recommendations for improving full-funnel visibility, along with a list of LinkedIn-approved attribution and analytics partners that can add further context to campaign data.

The guide gives B2B marketers actionable steps to trace the path that leads to business results from their LinkedIn activity. However, it also serves largely as a promotional vehicle for LinkedIn’s own analytics tools, some of which are available only to paying users.

For marketers struggling to demonstrate the value of their ad spend, the guide offers a useful starting point, provided they keep its promotional angle in mind.
