LinkedIn Launches Customizable Digital Business Cards for In-Person Networking

LinkedIn is rolling out digital business cards, a new feature that lets users share their professional profile through a customizable, scannable display. The company announced the update, saying people can now design and personalize a card that reflects who they are professionally, add it to their digital wallet, and stay in touch with those they meet in person. The feature will reach users globally over the coming months.

What the Cards Include

The cards were previewed at LinkedIn’s “Connection by Design” showcase event last week. According to images shared by Entrepreneur Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jason Feifer, each card pulls a headshot and job role description from the user’s LinkedIn profile and pairs them with a QR code. Screenshots posted on X by Ishan Sharma also show a range of design options, allowing users to adjust how their card looks before saving it to their wallet.

The simplified format should make it quicker to connect with people at conferences, meetups, and other events, replacing the need to exchange contact details manually or hand over a printed card.

A Second Attempt at Offline Connection

This is not LinkedIn’s first move in this direction. In 2018, the platform introduced profile QR codes to support offline connections. The concept was largely the same, though it lacked the custom design and creation tools now on offer. That earlier version never appeared to gain meaningful traction as a networking tool.

Whether the revamped approach fares better remains to be seen. By adding personalization and digital wallet access, LinkedIn is betting that a more polished, shareable format will encourage more real-world connections. For professionals who regularly attend industry events, the option could prove a convenient way to make a lasting impression.
