LinkedIn is expanding its user and business verification systems in-stream, deepening its push to help members trust the people and brands they interact with on the platform. The update builds on LinkedIn’s existing identity verification process, which already lets members confirm who they are through free third-party ID checks.
Colleagues Can Now Confirm Work History
Among the new additions, LinkedIn is testing a feature that allows past colleagues to verify whether a user actually worked at the company listed on their profile. Once a member collects enough confirmations, a verification badge appears on their profile. Notably, users can choose to hide this badge, a flexibility that could dilute the initiative’s credibility if too many opt out, though widespread adoption may eventually make the absence of a badge conspicuous.
Company Pages Gain More Control
LinkedIn is also giving verified company pages the ability to remove individuals who falsely list themselves as current employees. However, this tool is currently limited to companies that meet LinkedIn’s verification criteria, which often hinges on active engagement or a paid Premium Company Page subscription, meaning some businesses may need to pay to access the feature.
Additionally, LinkedIn is partnering with Truecaller and PeerSpot to extend verification visibility to more third-party platforms, joining existing partners like Adobe, TrustRadius, and UserTesting.
The company emphasized the growing importance of trust as AI reshapes the professional landscape, noting that over 115 million members have verified their identity or workplace for free, up from 100 million in December 2025. LinkedIn also reports that verified members see 50% more post engagement and nearly 90% more profile views, underscoring the tangible benefits of verification for users looking to boost their visibility and credibility on the platform.
