The 63-year-old Maryland lawmaker took to social media Sunday to announce that he suffered a minor stroke. While giving a speech in his state. Democrat Van Hollan said there was no long-term danger from the emergency room, and he would cancel his schedule in the coming days as directed by doctors.
In a statement shared on Twitter and Facebook. Van Hollen explained that he felt “dizziness and pain in his neck” while commenting. Seeking medical attention at home, he said, “The angiogram showed I had suffered a minor stroke in the form of rupture of a small blood vessel in the back of my head. But my doctor advised me to be monitored for a few days,” said Van Hollan.
The politician added that he hopes to return to the Senate this weekend and thanked the medical team who treated him.
However, he did not give a stroke date. The senator continued to his position, stating that he is “feeling much better but will be following the doctor’s orders and reducing my schedule for the next few days.”
Van Hollen was elected to the US Senate in 2016. And served on the Appropriations, Banking, Housing, and Municipal, Budget, and Foreign Affairs committees.
