Mbale stays at PSG after rejecting Real Madrid
The contract of one of PSG’s most wanted footballers expires in June, and Mbape will be available on a free transfer.
Killian Mbape Mbale celebrates with Parc des Princes fans after signing a new three-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday also turning down the chance to return to Real Madrid.
The France star, who won the World Cup, stood on stage near the center circle to speak to fans before PSG’s final home game against Metz.
“I am beaming to continue this adventure and live in France, in Paris, my city. “I’ve always said that Paris is my home,” Mbape said. “I hope I will continue to do what I love most, to continue playing football and winning trophies,” he has just announced a new contract.
“I have Mbale good news to tell you. Killian Mbape will last until 2025,” said Al-Helaifi, barely audible as fans continued to chant Mbape’s name. “Killian’s commitment to PSG is a tremendous milestone in the history of our club.”
The contract of one of PSG’s most wanted footballers expires in June, and Mbape will be available on a free transfer.
But instead of joining 13-times European champions Madrid, who have trailed him for so long, Mbape opted to stay on to secure his first PSG Champions League title.
Madrid managed to beat PSG in the Champions League this season, but again not in the transfer market.
The Spanish giants’ failure to sign Mbape is a blow to its president Florentino Perez, who has sought to delay the transfer for a year.
PSG rejected Madrid’s official offer of 180 million euros ($190 million) – the same amount Mbape signed from Monaco in 2017 – and even a reported sum of 200 million euros ($211 million) is not enough to sell the star, even though he only has one year left on his contract. Mbape said he wanted to leave PSG at the end of last season but only in the right conditions for PSG.
The wealth of the Qatari sovereign wealth fund linked to the Emir allowed PSG to withhold offers that other clubs short on government funding could not refuse.
