This Multi-Platinum, Grammy Winning Mix Engineer has thrilled all with his extraordinary work.
A music career has many different paths that one can take up as various contrasting jobs make up the music industry, one of these being a mixed engineer. When it comes to finalizing records for release, mix engineers are the ones who take the reigns.
They are responsible for arranging recording sessions and look after the technical aspects of producing quality, sonically pleasing music in the recording studio. We have one such technician amongst us who has excelled in his job as a sound engineer and a producer. He is undeniably going places with his ever-growing list of major credits in the music industry; he is Cyrus “NOIS” Taghipour.
Born plus bred in a little town called Danville, California, located in the East Bay Area, NOIS inclined music since his childhood. Singing in choirs from first grade right until he graduated high school, he was deeply involved in music.
Perhaps that’s the reason music was so close to him, having spent most of his growing up years amidst it. “Growing up, I was always around music, but it hadn’t really clicked that that was what I wanted to do with my life until my senior year of high school.
I had a teacher who wanted us to make “art” in any medium as our final project, and that was when I made my first beat. From that moment I knew it was no going back.” says NOIS, which stands for “No Obstacles In Sight”. He had found his passion and made up his mind to pursue a professional career in music.
“I didn’t come up in recording studios like a lot of other engineers” informs NOIS. “I went to college and received a degree in business finance, the whole time working on my craft and building my own brand as an artist..I was making beats, writing records, recording myself, doing live shows, just really learning each step of making a record on my own, in the box, and trying to put my 10,000 hours in.
People used to tell me, ‘oh, that record sounds dope, but I can’t understand what you’re saying,’ and that was when I really started putting more focus into the mixing side of things and making sure everything was coming out clean.”
Shortly after he graduated with a degree in Business Finance, NOIS made the move down to LA as he had always planned, and started working at a Wells Fargo, while continuing to spend all his free time in the studio. Little did he know, it was at that branch where he would make a key connection in helping him jumpstart his music career.
We ask NOIS what was the turning point in his career, to which he replies, “Working at the bank in LA, I met one of my favorite producers as a client and built a relationship with him over a couple years… eventually I ended up interning for him at what was then the Produced By THC studio in Hollywood. That’s how I linked with MixedByAli who took me under his wing and really showed me how to use ProTools and mix records on the SSL board, the rest was history.”
