Jesús Díaz, known as ‘Rafa Wayne’ on TikTok, was tragically murdered in Ciudad Juárez while driving for Uber. The incident occurred during a livestream on TikTok, where two passengers threatened and robbed Díaz.
The suspects demanded money and his phone, and a struggle ensued before the recording paused. Fellow Uber drivers discovered Díaz dead in the vehicle. Authorities later apprehended the suspects, including an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, along with weapons and drugs. Díaz, with over 72,000 TikTok followers, was known for livestreaming his Uber adventures. The incident has raised concerns about ride-share driver safety in Ciudad Juárez.
Protests and Concerns Over Ride-Share Driver Safety
Díaz’s murder follows the recent death of another Ciudad Juárez ride-share driver, Ismael Villagomez, on November 16. At least 17 ride-share drivers have been killed in Ciudad Juárez this year. In response, Uber and Didi drivers held a protest demanding police protection in front of the prosecutor’s office. The incidents highlight the risks faced by ride-share drivers and the urgent need for safety measures and support in areas with high crime rates.
