Pinterest Spotlights Its Impact on Teen Wellbeing

Pinterest released a new report this week detailing how teenagers use the platform and pointing to what it describes as encouraging trends in youth wellbeing. The report builds on the company’s ongoing “online discovery, offline engagement” campaign, which frames Pinterest as a tool that inspires real-world activity rather than a platform built to maximize screen time.

Teens Are Searching, Saving, and Customizing Their Feeds

According to the report, teen engagement on Pinterest is rising, with young users turning to Pins for inspiration and organizing ideas through saves and in-app searches. Pinterest noted that a large majority of active teens use the search bar to explore their interests, and that this age group adjusts feed and settings controls at roughly twice the rate of other users. Art-related searches are especially popular among teens, with categories like drawing references, anime styles, sketch tutorials, and bedroom décor standing out as top interests, reflecting how the app is used to plan offline projects.

Expanding Safety Tools and Mental Health Resources

Pinterest also announced it is broadening several protective features. Its “distraction-free schools” nudges, which prompt teens to set devices aside during school hours, will now roll out to more than 30 countries after already reaching millions of teens across the U.S., Canada, France, the U.K., Germany, and Brazil. The company is also growing its digital literacy hub and introducing a new trauma-informed space aimed at connecting digital habits with mental, emotional, and physical health. Additional philanthropic funding for youth mental health initiatives and school-based support programs is also planned.

The timing of the report comes as rival platforms face scrutiny over teen safety, positioning Pinterest as a comparatively lower-risk, purpose-driven alternative in the social media landscape—even as the company continues to rely on user engagement and ad revenue to sustain its business.
