POiSON ANNA’s Disrupting, Cracked Pop Needs To Awaken You Deception And Foundational Abuse.

POiSON ANNA

The contemporary artist and artist talks about settling torment through her craft, feeling awkward in London, and how Dean Blunt resembles a sibling to her.

Catching the claustrophobia of life during the 2020s with a cloudy blend of name, trip jump, and cracked electronic experimentalism, POiSON ANNA makes the kind of avant-pop that is bound to leak profound under your skin. Ask A$AP Rocky, who culled the Peckham-based craftsman out of haziness to compose for his 2018 collection Testing. Or, on the other hand – far better – why not ask Dean Blunt, her imaginative compatriot, and colleague.

On debut mixtape EXCELSiA, the 23-year-old British-Czech craftsman – referred to her companions as Chloe Anna – comes over just as attractive and inconsistent as her tutor. Made with customary associate Mobbs and blended by Jake Gordon (J Hus, Skepta, Burna Boy), the seven-melody assortment considers thoughts of personality and self-revelation regarding far and wide deception and foundational abuse.

This tragic feel is reflected in the rough melodic range, yet in the striking visuals that have gone with the singles “Weak” and “COMiN FOR YA”. Drawing on Anna’s long-lasting affection for hip jump, contemporary, and improvisational dance (it’s what she concentrated broadly on before seeking after the music), the previous highlights a group performing acrobat roused movement under the streetlamps Brixton.

The last is significantly more effective, including monochrome, hand-cam film of the artist slinking the roads of Vauxhall, scattered with disturbing scenes portraying her draining from the mouth before a grainy washroom reflect. You leave the two recordings having gained a sense you’re seeing the introduction of a profoundly talented multi-disciplinary craftsman, any semblance of which hasn’t been seen since the rise of FKA twigs.

Not long before Anna left London for Prague to visit her dad’s side of the family, she put away an ideal opportunity to talk Dazed through her excursion until now and to reveal to us the story behind EXCELSiA.
