Reddit is facing a growing spam problem even as its detection systems get sharper. The platform disclosed this week that it now sees over 23 million spam views daily, a sign of just how aggressively bad actors are trying to game the platform’s discussions.
AI Detection Stops Thousands of Posts Daily
According to Reddit’s Monday report, its upgraded AI-driven detection tools are now catching roughly 25,000 spam posts and comments every day, cutting overall spam exposure by 20% compared to last year. Reddit says much of this filtering happens early, screening suspicious accounts right at signup before they can post at all. For accounts that slip through, the company relies on large language models to spot coordinated, artificial engagement patterns that older filtering tools would have missed. Suspected automated accounts are also now prompted for additional verification.
Vote Manipulation Remains a Key Target
Beyond spam posts, Reddit says it has been removing close to 2 million fake post votes daily over the past quarter. Vote manipulation is particularly damaging because Reddit’s upvote system is designed to surface genuine community sentiment — a feature that has made the platform an increasingly valuable data source for AI chatbots seeking authentic human opinions on products, brands, and topics, rather than curated or biased marketing content.
Reddit also reported stronger results in catching spam and hate speech overall, while cutting false positives by more than 40%, meaning fewer legitimate users are being wrongly flagged.
As AI systems increasingly lean on Reddit for real-world consumer insight, protecting the integrity of that data has become a priority for the platform, reinforcing its position as a trusted reference point in an AI-driven information landscape.
