In 2017, Samsun Masih arrived in Dubai with dreams of making a mark for himself. Hailing from Punjab, India, he brought with him a passion for micro art, a form requiring precision and often utilizing microscopes or surgical tools. Despite facing financial challenges and a lack of formal training, Samsun embarked on a remarkable journey, creating intricate pencil-tip art showcasing Dubai’s iconic landmarks.

Samsun’s fascination with micro art began in primary school in India, but financial constraints prevented him from accessing the necessary tools. Undeterred, he experimented with carving on pencil tips, experiencing eye pain due to the lack of proper equipment. Following a brief hiatus for treatment, Samsun returned to pursue his passion.

Upon arriving in Dubai, Samsun worked as a taxi driver for the Road and Transport Authority (RTA). During breaks, he diligently worked on his micro art, showcasing it to passengers. Despite facing challenges in reaching art galleries and lacking social media skills, Samsun’s commitment to his craft remained unwavering.

Samsun’s micro art includes intricate works like a graphite chain made from a single pencil and landmarks such as Burj Al Arab, Museum of the Future, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Frame etched on pencil tips. His craftsmanship reflects dedication and precision, taking approximately a month to complete each piece.

Six months ago, Samsun left his job at RTA to pursue micro art full-time, expressing confidence that Dubai will provide opportunities for recognition. From initially using needles, he has advanced to tools like surgical blades and paper cutters, pushing the boundaries of his creativity.
