Samsung Electronics on Wednesday revealed its newest Galaxy S25 smartphones, powered by Qualcomm’s chips and Google’s artificial-intelligence model, expecting its upgraded AI features can reinvigorate sales and faint Apple and Chinese competitors.
Samsung Electronics has introduced its newest Galaxy S25 smartphones, leveraging Qualcomm chips and Google’s AI engine, as it seeks to reinvigorate sales amidst fierce competition from Apple and Chinese rivals.
New Features and AI Integration
The Galaxy S25 series integrates Google’s Gemini AI model as its default engine, coupled with an upgraded version of Samsung’s in-house voice assistant, Bixby. According to Park Ji-sun, Samsung’s Executive VP of Language AI, the two tools are designed to complement each other.
“Bixby plays a pivotal role in Samsung’s ecosystem, connecting mobile phones, TVs, and home appliances,” Park explained, adding that the company aims to maintain its lead in AI-driven features.
Competitive Pricing and New Models
Samsung has kept the Galaxy S25 pricing unchanged, ranging from $799 to $1,299, making it an attractive option in both the mid and premium markets.
Additionally, Samsung previewed the Galaxy S25 Edge, a slimmer version of its flagship series, expected to launch in the first half of the year. This move is seen as a preemptive strike ahead of Apple’s anticipated slimmer iPhone launch.
Challenges in the Smartphone Market
While Samsung was an early mover in AI-powered smartphones, it struggled to regain dominance in the global smartphone market last year. Apple continues to lead in the premium segment, while Chinese manufacturers dominate the lower-end market.
Despite these challenges, Park expressed confidence in Samsung’s strategy. “We are one step ahead of the industry in offering AI features. I believe we are heading in the right direction,” he said.
Looking Ahead
Samsung’s ability to compete in the premium market while maintaining a strong foothold in the mid-range segment will be critical in 2025.
With its AI advancements and competitive pricing, the Galaxy S25 series represents a significant effort to reestablish its position as a global leader.
Tech enthusiasts and industry watchers will keep an eye on how Samsung’s bold moves impact the market, especially as Apple and other competitors gear up for their next big launches.
