Venus Williams asked a reporter as she wondered if she only played at Wimbledon to beat her sister Serena Williams
During a press conference last weekend, Venus Williams didn’t mince words. When she and fellow tennis player Jamie Murray were asked dark questions about their sibling.
Both players played in the mixed doubles competition at Wimbledon this year. And after winning their first-round matches against Michael Venus and Alicia Rosolska on Saturday. A reporter asked the pair if Venus and Jamie hoped to beat their sister Serena Williams and brother Andy Murray at the tennis tournament.
“Do you have the will to win it. Or is it the first goal to get past the third round where Serena also Andy were crappers? Andy was beaten in the first round of every individual competition at Wimbledon.
Looking confused by her question, Venus, 42, looked at Jamie, 36, and wondered, “What is that question?”
“We’re on our way,” he sarcastically told reporters. “So come on.”
But the reporter wasn’t done yet, although Venus rejected his words. “Are you for the experience, or are you going all the way?” he asked.
Unfortunately, Venus and Jamie didn’t make it any further. The duo failed to beat Alicia Barnett also Jonny O’Mara in the next round. As they could not convert 5 match points in the marathon third-set tiebreak.
It was the first Venus tournament in more than ten months. “The Queen is BACK,” read a post on the Instagram profile of her active clothing brand EleVen last week, revealing her return to London. “@venuswilliams is back on historic @wimbledon grass where he holds five singles titles and six doubles titles. Let’s add mixed doubles titles to the list, shall we?!”
