X Revamps History Tab on iOS to Spotlight Long-Form Content

X has rolled out a refreshed History tab for iOS users, reorganizing past activity into distinct content categories. The update separates bookmarks, long videos, articles, and liked posts into individual sections, making it simpler to revisit content that scrolled past in a busy timeline. X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, noted that the fast-moving timeline makes it hard to return to longer content, and this update aims to solve that.

A Strategic Push for Long-Form Content

The timing of this update is no coincidence. X has been actively pushing creators toward longer posts, partly to benefit its AI division, xAI. Its Grok chatbot relies heavily on X conversations for training data — real-time discussion is plentiful, but deep, contextual content has been lacking. To address this gap, X expanded its long-form Articles feature to all Premium subscribers and even offered a $1 million prize for top articles in February. Those efforts appear to be working, with Bier reporting that X Articles have grown 18x over the past three months.

Questions About Reach and Impact

Despite the positive momentum, questions linger about how many users will actually discover the updated tab. X’s product announcements have become increasingly low-key, meaning many users may simply never notice the change. The platform’s overall usage is also reported to be declining, which limits the broader impact of any single feature update.

Still, for engaged users who regularly consume video and articles on the platform, the reorganized History tab offers a genuinely useful way to pick up where they left off.
