Ethan Platt hopes to stay away from his parents Kim and Barry Platt’s marital problems after they tell the family that they are living separately.

Welcome to Plathville’s Ethan and Kim Platt announced on an episode of the TLC show on Tuesday night that they were living separately and the couple’s oldest child didn’t want to be involved.

“To be honest, I might prefer to stay away,” the 24-year-old exclusively told PEOPLE.

The couple’s relationship issues have been fully expose since the start of the fourth season of the reality show. Including Kim reading her journal entry about how unhappy and alone she feels with Barry.
“I didn’t like how he was publicize about it. After spending countless nights on the couch, Kim, 49, decide that it was time to take action in this week’s episode. Shortly after, Barry is seen gathering his younger children over a pizza to explain the situation.

“Last night, I sat alone with the kids just to let them know that Kim and I split up,” said Barry, 54. Adding that he was trying “to get over any emotions.” “Kim and I haven’t met about how we’re going to do this. I feel like it’s about time.

The children seemed to understand. Kim also shared with his country what motivated him to take the bold step of ending his 25-year marriage.

“Barry tried for a while, but eventually, I realize he wasn’t trying,” he said. “Once he thought it could work, he stopped trying. And when I realized that, I got emotional; I had just finished. I just had the feeling there was no way it would work.”

He added: “It was like he wanted me to stay, but I don’t know if he want to change. I didn’t see a way to restore that emotional intimacy.”
