Erling Haaland rewrote the Premier League record books on Saturday (October 17), scoring twice as Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 in their seventh league match of the 2026-27 season. The Norwegian striker became the fastest player in the competition’s history to reach 100 non-penalty goals, getting there in just 139 appearances.
Haaland Delivers When It Matters
Haaland opened his account in the 34th minute, helping City move into a 2-1 lead during an end-to-end first half. He struck again in the 69th minute, a goal that proved vital in a closely fought contest. The brace took him past the milestone, and no other player has reached 100 non-penalty Premier League goals in fewer than 139 matches.
The achievement underlines the 26-year-old’s consistency in front of goal. Haaland has played all seven of City’s league games this season and has scored eight goals. Before his double against Ipswich, he had found the net in the previous match at Anfield against Liverpool. His goals this campaign have also come against Crystal Palace, Coventry City, Manchester United and Sunderland, showing he is delivering against sides of every stature.
A Perfect Start Under Maresca
Haaland’s record came on the same day City extended their flawless start under new manager Enzo Maresca. The win was City’s seventh from seven, making them the first team in Premier League history to win all of their opening seven matches of a season.
That combination of a record-breaking striker and a perfect run puts City firmly in control of the early title race. Ipswich pushed them hard, but City’s attacking quality, led by Haaland, was enough to secure all three points.
With the season still young, the question now is how long Haaland and City can keep this form going, and how many more records may fall along the way.
