LinkedIn Adds Direct GIF Support to Comments Feature

LinkedIn Adds Direct GIF Support to Comments

LinkedIn has rolled out native GIF support within its comment section, allowing users to add animated images directly to post replies without additional file conversions. The feature, announced by Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn’s chief product officer, appears in the latest version of the LinkedIn app as a simple tool within the reply dialog box.

Simplifying Animation Sharing

Previously, LinkedIn users who wanted to include animated content in feed posts had to convert GIFs to MP4 video files—an extra step that discouraged many from using animations. While the platform previously supported GIFs in direct messaging and single-image ads, the main feed required this workaround. The new update eliminates this friction, making it easier for professionals to respond with reaction GIFs to announcements and industry updates.

Streamlined Post Interface Updates

Alongside the GIF feature, LinkedIn has redesigned how post action buttons and engagement counts are displayed. The updated post UI consolidates these elements into a single line, allowing users to tap on each actionable element more efficiently. This streamlined presentation aims to reduce clutter in users’ feeds while maintaining full functionality.

Industry Adoption Outlook

Though GIFs are considered outdated by younger users, many LinkedIn professionals will welcome the simplified animation capabilities. These updates represent LinkedIn’s ongoing effort to enhance user engagement and make content creation more accessible. While both features are relatively minor, their combined impact could meaningfully improve how users interact with posts on the platform.
