TikTok Shop is emerging as a major growth channel for food and beverage companies, with large players like PepsiCo, Mars, and Hershey ramping up their presence on the platform. According to TikTok’s head of food, Amanda Parker, the app blends content and commerce in a way that shortens the path from discovery to purchase, giving both emerging brands and legacy names new ways to reach audiences. The platform reported a sharp rise in food category sales and a significant jump in purchase-driven searches from U.S. users last year, alongside strong growth in transaction volume and enterprise brand sales.
From Viral Trend to Store Shelf
One of the most notable shifts has been the speed at which online trends turn into real products. A viral food trend can be picked up by smaller, TikTok-native brands almost immediately, prompting larger manufacturers to follow with their own accelerated product launches, sometimes debuting exclusives directly on TikTok Shop. This feedback loop is compressing traditional product development timelines and changing where brands look for their next big idea.
What Makes Products Succeed
Visually striking items, unique textures, bold flavors, and products that “stop the scroll” tend to perform best, Parker noted. Authentic, creator-led content also outperforms polished advertising, since users trust recommendations that feel personal rather than produced. Brands are encouraged to offer a strong hero product paired with variety packs and seasonal exclusives, while treating TikTok Shop as connected to their broader advertising strategy rather than a standalone channel. Companies that move quickly on trends, Parker said, stand to benefit most from the platform’s fast-moving discovery cycle.
