TikTok Drives Brand Discovery and Sales Growth for U.S. Small Businesses

TikTok has revealed compelling new data on the growing impact of its platform for U.S. small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), unveiled at a Small Business Month event in New York. Citing research from GlobalData, the company highlighted how TikTok Shop is rapidly becoming a leading brand discovery engine for smaller brands across the country.

Small Businesses Dominate TikTok Shop Discoveries

According to the findings, two-thirds of U.S. TikTok Shop users have discovered a new brand through the platform, with 72% of those newly discovered brands being small businesses. Eight out of ten TikTok Shop users also reported discovering more small brands since joining the platform. Searches for “small business” surged 479% during Q1 2026, signaling strong and growing consumer interest in independent brands.

The conversion impact is equally striking. Fifty-seven percent of users purchased from a newly discovered brand within days, while 90% completed a purchase within a month — figures that underscore TikTok’s powerful role in compressing the buyer journey.

Community Engagement Fuels Long-Term Brand Loyalty

Beyond discovery, TikTok’s community-driven environment appears to build lasting brand relationships. Nearly three-quarters of users reported feeling a deeper connection to brands they engage with on the platform, while 45% continue searching TikTok after an initial discovery, extending the engagement window significantly.

TikTok also pointed to its expanding AI-powered advertising tools as a key advantage for SMBs looking to scale efficiently. With authenticity and creative storytelling at the core of its commerce ecosystem, TikTok Shop is increasingly positioning itself as an indispensable growth channel for small business owners in 2026.
