X Rolls Out New Video Editor With Green Screen Tools

X has introduced a redesigned video editor and recorder interface for its iOS app, adding several new creative tools aimed at making video content easier to produce and share. The refreshed capture experience folds new features into a streamlined overlay, giving users more flexibility when filming and editing clips directly within the app.

New Features Focus on Creators

Among the additions are multi-language captioning and green screen recording, both designed to give creators more professional-grade options without needing external editing software. Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, said equipping creators with better tools—and rewarding those who use them—remains a top priority for the platform, adding that further updates to the video editor are expected in the coming weeks.

The move continues X’s multi-year push to position video as a bigger part of its platform identity. That effort has included trials of a dedicated video tab within the app’s navigation bar and various content partnerships built around original video programming.

Still Trailing Rivals in Video Engagement

Despite former CEO Linda Yaccarino’s 2024 declaration that X had become a “video first platform,” citing a sharp rise in video views, the platform’s actual usage numbers continue to lag well behind competitors such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Critics have suggested X’s video ambitions have relied more on messaging than on meaningful product investment.

Whether this latest editor overhaul changes that trajectory remains to be seen. By lowering the barrier to producing polished video content, X may encourage more users to post video natively, potentially narrowing the engagement gap with platforms that have long dominated the format.
