Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Quick Flip in Montecito
Renowned talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and actress Portia de Rossi are making headlines in the real estate market with their swift move to flip a historic house in Montecito, California.
A Profitable Endeavor
The couple, known for their interest in real estate ventures, recently listed the 5,500-square-foot English Tudor residence for $6.9 million, just over three months after acquiring it. The property, handled by Robert Riskin of Riskin Partners Group at Village Properties Realtors, was purchased by the couple in January for $3.6 million. Unlike their previous real estate endeavors where they intended to reside in the homes they bought, this marked the first property acquired with the explicit purpose of renovating and selling.
Historical Significance
The Montecito residence holds a unique history, originally consisting of two barns built in the 1700s in Surrey, England. In the 1980s, the barns were dismantled, meticulously numbered, and transported to Montecito. There, they were expertly reconstructed, resulting in the creation of “The Porter House.”
Modern Updates with Historical Charm
While preserving the historical integrity of the structure, the renovation brought modern updates to the property, including a new kitchen, study, snack bar, and laundry room. The residence features wooden beams, casement windows, grand fireplaces, and underwent a reconfiguration from three to two bedrooms, now boasting four bathrooms.
Coveted Location and Outdoor Appeal
Nestled in one of Montecito’s most coveted neighborhoods, the 1.35-acre property encompasses brick terraces, lush gardens, and stone pathways. Described as “beautiful, sophisticated, and cozy” by Mr. Riskin, the house is deemed ideal for individuals with a discerning eye for architecture and design.
Ellen and Portia’s Strategic Real Estate Portfolio
The Montecito flip adds another chapter to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s real estate portfolio, showcasing their knack for strategic property investments and renovations.
