Ferran Torres scored the goal of his life when his extra-time strike gave Spain a 1-0 win over Argentina, sealing the nation’s second FIFA World Cup title. Days later, though, it was a lighter moment—not the winning goal—that had fans talking, after Princess Leonor caught him off guard during Spain’s royal reception.
A Royal Reminder Goes Viral
The Spanish squad was welcomed at Zarzuela Palace by King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía after their triumphant return from North America, where Torres had netted the decisive 106th-minute winner. As Torres greeted the royals, Leonor, dressed in a Spain jersey marking the 2026 tournament, asked him if he had not promised to shave off all his hair. A visibly caught-off-guard Torres laughed and quickly replied, “No, no!” The clip spread rapidly across social media, with fans amused that the princess had tracked such a specific pledge.
The promise reportedly dated back to before the tournament, when Torres had vowed to shave his head completely if Spain lifted the trophy. While he delivered on the far bigger promise of winning the World Cup, the haircut itself now looks unlikely to happen.
Teammates Still Have Pledges to Keep
Torres isn’t the only Spain player with a wager outstanding. Marc Cucurella, Alex Baena, Borja Iglesias and Yeremy Pino are expected to get tattoos of coach Luis de la Fuente’s face, while Lamine Yamal promised to grow a beard for three weeks and give away 100 pairs of earphones to fans. Gavi and Pedri are also set to dye their hair as part of separate bets made before the tournament began.
Whether these promises are eventually honoured remains to be seen, but Leonor’s quip has already given Spain’s celebrations one more memorable moment.
