Better wear it! Last year, amid the lockdown, Demna Gvasalia posted a messed-up playlist on Balenciaga’s Apple Music account. Everyone joins the eclectic line-up – from George Michael, Barry Manilow, and Selena Gomez to Nine Inch Nails and Lana Del Rey, marking the start of a new musical line.
Shortly after, the designer invited longtime favorite Rammstein to take part and create their playlist, which was released in April and a collection of exclusive items from the band.
Now that Gvasalia has launched her second musical collaboration and since she’s following in the footsteps of a group of German heavy metal executives, it seems likely that the series’ guests will be as varied as the songs they choose. Step forward: RuPaul.
As we follow the Vuitton ninja through the barren desert, across portals, and through rave forests, the audience is greeted by sparring-style tribes. However, this is not a collection of dichotomies as a statement that many seemingly contradictory truths can coexist in harmony simultaneously.
Announced this afternoon on Instagram, the drag icon is behind glamorous discotheques, houses, and a pop-heavy selection from hit after hit to Girls and gays have risen – and everyone with a bit of taste – including Madonna, Kylie, Lady Gaga, and Mariah. Britney, Bay, Missy, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna also participated.
Elsewhere, Mama Roo played her song “Sissy That Walk” and ended with pieces from The Supremes, Donna Summer, and Dead or Alive.
As was the case with Rammstein in April, there is a selection of products for fans of Balenciaga and Mrs. Charles, including tennis tights with sleeves with the brand’s logo and signature from Ru, as OG’s star child club Susanne Bartsch wears) in an attached photo series.
