Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose leaves after the trophy-free season

Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose has left the Bundesliga side by mutual consent after a season without a silver medal, Dortmund announced on Friday.

Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind champions Bayern Munich.

They done 3rd in their group in the Champions League after Ajax Amsterdam and Sporting. However, they were knocked out of the Europa League preliminaries before being knocked out by the Scottish side Rangers.

In January, the club also suffered a shock exit from the German Cup at minor St Pauli, while Bayern beat them in the German Super Cup final last August.

Today was not easy for all of us because the mutual respect between us was, is, and will be great,” said club manager Hans-Joachim Valcke.

“After an unsatisfactory season for various reasons, we have to realize that we didn’t use our chances in many areas.”

Rose joined Dortmund in 2021 from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“Despite their difficult season, I am confident in our path,” said Rose.

“During our conversation, I get the impression that there was no longer 100 percent conviction of all the perpetrators. So in the end, we decided together to end the cooperation.”
