HoloLens creator Alex Kipman leaves Microsoft after misconduct allegations

Microsoft HoloLens creator head Alex Kipman has left the company. After insiders said he was accuse of misconduct by his colleagues. Microsoft will restructure its mixed reality group HoloLens after it goes, the company said.

The HoloLens creator change arrives at a critical time for HoloLens technology.

HoloLens is an augmented reality handset that puts digital information in the real world. Microsoft uses it to serve its corporate partners through the Industrial Metaverse. Which the company says can help factory workers build, repair, and manage supply chains. For example, Kawasaki recently signed a contract to use the headset to help its employees build robots.

Kipman, who joined Microsoft in 2001, is accused of abusing current and former employees in an insider report release late last month. Kipman did not respond to a request for analysis from Insider and was not immediately available to news for comment.

Microsoft declined to confirm or deny the allegations against Kipman. And other executives before the news but confirmed that Kipman left the company to “pursue other interests.”

The company plans to merge its mixed reality hardware group into the Windows also Devices organization. He also moved his mixed reality collaboration groups to Microsoft Teams. Meanwhile, Bloomberg said Microsoft is now deciding whether to continue developing its AR hardware.

Kipman will help the team move through the next two months, Microsoft said.
