Tom Brady and Gisele quickly began to divorce, with the former couple finalizing their terms of separation the same day they filed. Divorce papers were file Friday morning and approve by the judge soon after, leaving Brady and Bundchen single.

Quick divorces are rare but not uncommon, said New York City divorce attorney Jacqueline Newman of Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein LLP, unrelate to Brady or Bundchen.

“They have reached a settlement agreement, which usually includes financial and custody issues,” Newman told PEOPLE. “By the time it was file, they already had custody, child support, alimony.”

After the couple agrees to the terms of their separation, a judge must give final approval.

“Once the couple agrees on everything, the judge reviews and approves the settlement,” Newman said. “There are situations where a judge will reject a settlement, usually in child support situations. However, this is rare and usually occurs when child support appears skewed. But that’s not the problem here.”

In a statement posted to his Instagram story, Brady, 45, said they had decided to divorce “amicably”.

“In the last few days, my wife and I have finalized our divorce after 13 years of marriage,” Brady wrote. “We made this decision amicably and in gratitude, for the time we had together.

The athlete also said that she and Bundchen, 42, decided to “end” their marriage “after much deliberation.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback told fans he and Bundchen were “endow with beautiful and wonderful children” and that the couple would continue to “work closely as parents to ensure they always get the love and attention they deserve.”.
