Jake Paul Scores Quick Victory, Serrano’s Fight Cancelled
Jake Paul won his bout against Ryan Bourland by first-round knockout on Saturday night in Puerto Rico before the main event was canceled due to hometown boxer Amanda Serrano being declared “medically unfit” to fight.
Paul, 27, now has back-to-back first-round knockouts; this time, it was just as easy. He barraged his opponent with body blows and had him up against the ropes.
Serrano’s Heartbreak and Fight Cancellation:
The referee interfered just as Paul delivered the knockout blow that made Bourland hit the canvas. There was no count, and it was instantly declared out.
Paul went from boxer to promoter in moments to announce that the women’s boxing champion, Serrano, would not be able to fight due to an eye injury.
Amanda Serrano, 35, was set to defend her IBF, WBA, and WBO featherweight titles against Nina Meinke. Still, the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission declared her “medically unfit” to fight because of an eye injury she suffered on Friday.
Disappointment and Compensation:
“She is devasted that she won’t be able to perform in front of her hometown fans, but despite wanting to go out and put on a show, the Commissioner said there is no way she can fight with her eye in its current condition,” Most Valuable Promotions wrote in a statement.
