Kenyans Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedi win the 51st New York City Marathon

This year more than 50,000 runners took part in the 51st edition of the 26.2-mile race.

Tens of thousands of runners took to the streets of New York on Saturday as they participated in the 51st New York City Marathon.

The Kenyans Evans 1st runner to cross the finish line was Evans Chebet, 33, of Kenya in 2 hours 8 minutes 41 seconds, the New York Times reported. Chebet previously won in Boston and now wins in New York.

The Times reported that Sharon Loki, 28, of Kenya, won the women’s marathon in 2 hours 23 minutes 23 seconds. Locked attended college in Kansas, where he taught N.C.A.A. Winner of 10,000 meters 2018, according to the newspaper. “Amazing performance by Evans Chebet from and Sharon Lokedi to win the @nycmarathon. Susanna Scaroni also won the women’s wheelchair category, breaking the course record. Happy birthday everyone. ,” wrote the official account of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi.

“Marcel Hug of Switzerland won her fifth wheelchair title at the New York City Men’s Marathon, convincingly breaking the track record, while Susanna Scaroni of the United States took her first women’s title and also broke the track record,” the Times reported.

This year, more than 50,000 runners took part in the 51st edition of the 26.2-mile race, reports C.B.S. News.

The race traditionally starts on Staten Island and exits the county via the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The race took runners through Brooklyn and then to Queens before reaching Manhattan. After the trip to the Bronx, the runners returned to Manhattan and finished in Central Park. In 2021, Kenyan runners Albert Korir and Peres Jepchirchir won what turned out also to be the 50th New York City Marathon.
