Manchester United’s next manager will be Ajax coach Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag, the coach of Ajax, has been named Manchester United’s new manager.

The 52-year-old Dutchman will abide over from interim Manchester United’s next manager on a three-year contract that can be extend by a year.

Manchester United’s next manager Rangnick will work as a consultant after taking over for the dismissed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, Ten Hag will be the fifth permanent manager.

“To be appointed manager of Manchester United is a huge honor, and I am enormously excite by the challenge ahead,” Ten Hag stated. United is 6th in the Premier League with five games remaining. Three points behind Tottenham in the fourth position in the Champions League.

Despite losing to their rivals in the Dutch Cup final. Ajax sits four points ahead of PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie with five games remaining.

Ten Hag has been the head trainer of Ajax since December 2017, and in 2018-19 and 2020-21. He guided the team to league and cup doubles.

They reached the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals and were seconds away from reaching the final, only to be stop by a stunning Tottenham comeback. After two and a half years as coach of Utrecht, Ten Hag joined Ajax. He previously worked alongside Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to coach Bayern Munich’s second squad.

Since December 3rd, Rangnick has guided United to nine wins, sixties, and four defeats in 19 league games.
