Meta Expands AI Translation for Reels to Hindi and Portuguese
Meta has expanded its AI-powered translation feature for Reels, adding support for Hindi and Portuguese languages. This enhancement allows content creators to automatically translate and dub their videos, making them accessible to viewers in some of the world’s largest social media markets.
The feature, initially launched in August 2025 with English and Spanish support, now covers four languages total. Creators can seamlessly translate their Reels across Instagram and Facebook, with Meta’s AI technology mimicking their voice’s sound and tone to maintain authenticity in the translated content.
Breaking Language Barriers for Global Reach
The addition of Hindi is particularly significant, as India represents the largest single market for both Facebook and Instagram, surpassing the United States by a considerable margin. This expansion enables creators to tap into massive audiences that were previously limited by language constraints.
Meta’s translation technology goes beyond simple dubbing by offering an optional lip-syncing feature that matches the translated audio to the creator’s mouth movements. While the technology may occasionally appear slightly off-time, it provides a remarkably natural viewing experience that helps maintain the creator’s authentic presence across languages.
User Control and Transparency
Every translated Reel is clearly labeled with “Translated with Meta AI,” ensuring viewers always know when they’re watching translated content. Users maintain full control over the feature, with options to enable or disable translations or watch content in its original language through the three-dot settings menu.
This expansion represents a significant step toward breaking down language barriers on social media, potentially opening new opportunities for creators to build international audiences and foster cross-border connections in an increasingly globalized digital landscape.
