Snapchat Integrates Perplexity AI Into Chat Interface
Snapchat is making another major move into artificial intelligence by announcing a partnership with Perplexity AI, integrating the AI-powered answer engine directly into its popular Chat interface. Beginning in early 2026, Snapchat users worldwide will be able to ask questions to Perplexity AI and receive clear, conversational answers sourced from verifiable sources, all without leaving the app.
What Makes Perplexity Different?
Unlike traditional chatbots, Perplexity functions as a specialized answer engine designed for research and accuracy. The platform currently handles over 150 million questions each week and has gained recognition for delivering more reliable responses than ChatGPT, particularly for fact-based inquiries. Users will be able to leverage Perplexity’s real-time web-sourced answers to get timely, verified information on virtually any topic.
Competition Within the Chat Interface
The integration raises questions about Snapchat’s existing “My AI” chatbot, powered by OpenAI’s GPT models and Google’s Gemini. Rather than replacing it, Snapchat plans to offer both AI tools simultaneously, allowing users to compare responses and choose the most useful answer. My AI remains available for general conversation and assistance, while Perplexity fills the niche for research-focused queries. Combined with Sponsored Snaps already appearing in DMs, the Chat interface will become significantly more feature-dense.
The partnership comes with substantial financial incentives for Snapchat. Perplexity will pay Snapchat $400 million for one year of inbox placement, demonstrating the significant value both companies place on reaching Snapchat’s extensive user base and establishing Perplexity as a mainstream AI solution.
