Utah Man Arrested in Connection with Charlie Kirk Shooting

Utah authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with a shooting incident involving conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Governor Spencer Cox announced the arrest Friday, revealing that Robinson’s own family members played a crucial role in his apprehension.

Family Member Tips Off Authorities

The breakthrough came when a Robinson family member contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on September 11, reporting that Tyler had confessed or implied his involvement in the incident. “We got him,” Governor Cox stated at a press conference, crediting the family’s cooperation as instrumental in the swift arrest. The suspect’s father also collaborated with law enforcement, according to sources close to the investigation.

CCTV Evidence Confirms Suspect Identity

Security footage from Utah Valley University captured Robinson arriving Wednesday morning in a Dodge Challenger, wearing distinctive clothing that matched what investigators observed during his arrest. The suspect wore a maroon T-shirt, light shorts, and a black hat with a white logo. This visual evidence, combined with clearer images released Thursday by the FBI, strengthened the case against Robinson.

President Donald Trump commented on the arrest during a Fox News interview, stating that someone “very close to him turned him in” and praising the cooperation of a person “of faith” in bringing the case forward. “With a high degree of certainty, we have him,” Trump confirmed.

The incident occurred Wednesday at Utah Valley University in what officials describe as a targeted attack. A high-powered rifle was recovered near the scene. Trump announced plans to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him “a good person” who contributed significantly to conservative cause.
