The 35-year-old “Young also Troubled” star won Best Leading Actor in Daily Drama: Actress at the 49th annual ceremony on Friday night, becoming the first black actress to win an Emmy for Best Actor.
Morgan, who plays Amanda Sinclair and previously played Hillary Curtis on the long-running CBS soap opera, received a standing ovation at the coveted award and revealed her upbringing during her acceptance speech, per Deadline. “I was born on a small island. in the Caribbean, and now I’m on the international stage, and they respect me, no matter the color of my skin, Also no matter how my passport, that I’m the best at what I do,” she began. “Now there are little girls worldwide, and whatever the industry, whatever the calling … they can strive to be the best.”
He continued: “I have to thank the fans and everyone at home.
They hugged me when I came to this event, and I’m so proud of our generation.”
“We broke the glass ceiling from left to right and center, and it’s an honor for me to be on the court and witness this moment. Everyone out there today, together, we can do equality and unity,” he added.
