Dustin Lance Black provides health update while recovering from ‘serious head injury.’
The Oscar-winning screenwriter said doctors thought Dustin Lance would “return to Lance” at Christmas.
Dustin Lance Black shared that he is expected to make a full recovery from his recent head injury.
The 48-year-old screenwriter said the prophecy looked suitable for the Thursday premiere of Mama’s Boy, a documentary adaptation of his 2019 memoir.
“What’s really challenging is not being able to use my mind,” Black said in an interview with Variety. “And I don’t share it publicly until I get to a place where I can be a little creative again – at least for a few hours in the morning with a break.”
The Oscar-winning screenwriter said it was a tough time but things were getting better. “It took a long time before the next thought or word came,” said Black. “It’s coming back and the doctors are saying hopefully I’ll be back in Lance before Christmas.”
In September, Black revealed on Instagram that he had suffered a head injury the previous month and stated that he was recovering.
“So I’ve been away for a while… A month ago I had a serious head injury that left me unemployed,” Black wrote at the time.
“But this week my sweet husband on top took us to the Greek islands to lock me up,” she continued, sharing photos from her and husband Tom Daley’s vacation. “I already feel this journey is a step in the right direction and I finally feel safe to share a little more. Thank you for all your love and patience. There’s more to come. I promise.”
Although Black did not reveal the cause of his injury, his post included a photo of him smiling while wearing a shirt embroidered with the words “Lucky.”
Black’s followers sent their congratulations to the screenwriter under his post. “I’m glad you’re feeling better. We wish you a full speedy recovery,” commented actress and TV personality Domaine Javier, while former Great British Bake Off winner Dr. Rahul Mandal added: “Get well soon! Send lots of love.”
