FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Tickets Now Cost Nearly $11,000
FIFA has hiked its top ticket price for the 2026 World Cup final to $10,990, making it one of the most expensive sporting events in history. The price surge came during the reopening of ticket sales following the finalisation of the 48-team tournament field, leaving millions of football fans shocked at the cost of witnessing the sport’s biggest stage.
Dynamic Pricing Fuels Fan Outrage
FIFA is employing a dynamic pricing model for the tournament, meaning ticket costs fluctuate based on demand. As a result, prices for 40 of the 104 scheduled matches have already risen since the previous sales window. Even the cheapest openly available final tickets now start at $4,185 — more than seven times what fans paid for the least expensive seats at the 2022 World Cup final.
The price hike has drawn fierce criticism from supporters and lawmakers alike. Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and consumer rights group Euroconsumers have filed a formal complaint with the European Commission, accusing FIFA of abusing its monopoly position. According to FSE, FIFA has “imposed conditions on fans that would never be acceptable in a competitive market.”
US Congress Members Add Political Pressure
In March, 69 Democratic members of the US Congress wrote to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, arguing that dynamic pricing “starkly contrasts with FIFA’s core mission to promote the accessible and inclusive development of soccer globally.” The letter highlighted that hosting the tournament across the United States, Canada, and Mexico carries a responsibility to keep football accessible to ordinary fans.
Despite mounting legal and political pressure, FIFA has yet to revise its pricing strategy, leaving supporters to wonder whether the beautiful game is becoming a privilege reserved only for the wealthy.
