Manchester United’s Summer Overhaul: Ederson Signed, Three Players Listed for Sale
Manchester United have agreed a £35 million deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, marking the first major transfer of the Michael Carrick era. The 26-year-old, who has earned three caps for Brazil, has signed a four-year contract and is set to officially join the club in July ahead of pre-season. He arrives as a direct replacement for Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of the month.
A Midfield Revolution Underway
Ederson is expected to be the first of up to three midfielders United bring in this summer. Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali have all been identified as targets. Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled to make an impact since his £50m arrival from PSG in 2024, is also likely to be moved on, though his high wages could complicate a permanent sale and force the club to consider a loan arrangement.
Exits Lined Up Across the Squad
Beyond Ugarte, United are actively seeking buyers for goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Joshua Zirkzee. Onana, who spent this season on loan at Trabzonspor, has been told he has no future at the club, with Senne Lammens now regarded as the long-term first-choice keeper. Zirkzee, meanwhile, managed just two goals in another underwhelming campaign and drew Serie A interest in January.
Carrick is also targeting a new forward and a left-back to strengthen further. The United boss guided the club to a third-place Premier League finish, seven points behind Manchester City, and is keen to build on that momentum heading into next season.
