How did it start?
Ted Lasso was born of an elegantly written joke. In 2013, Sudeikis, who finished a successful decade on Saturday Night Live. Created a video for NBC Sports to help the network promote new coverage of English Premier League football matches.
Dressed in Sudeikis, the proud Kansan is like Ted Lasso, a Midwestern soccer coach who has just been recruited to run the real Tottenham Hotspur club. Gags wrote it himself. The football game could end in a relationship, Lasso said. If it happened in American football, “this could be cited in Revelation as the cause of the apocalypse.”
After his second ESPN Lasso promotion went viral in 2014, the actor, encouraged by his then-wife, British actress and director Olivia Wilde.
