X Rolls Out AI Auto-Translations and In-Stream Photo Editing Tools

n a significant update to its global interface, X has officially expanded its AI-powered auto-translation feature to all users and introduced a suite of in-stream photo editing tools. The announcement, shared on April 7, 2026, marks a major step in the platform’s transition toward using its proprietary Grok AI to handle core accessibility and creative functions, further distancing itself from third-party providers like Google Translate.

Enhanced Global Communication via Grok

The new auto-translate feature, which has been in phased integration since mid-2025, is now available worldwide. Powered by the Grok AI model, these translations are designed to be more contextually accurate than previous iterations. According to X’s product team, the shift aims to foster “global reach,” allowing users to interact with content from different regions without language barriers. For those who prefer the original text, the feature can be toggled off via the in-app settings.

Advanced Creative Controls for Premium Users

Beyond translation, the platform has rolled out a much-anticipated in-stream photo editor. Currently available on iOS—with an Android release expected soon—the tool allows users to add text overlays, drawing functionalities, and even use Grok-powered features to edit or redact parts of an image directly within the post composer.

Additionally, X has updated its reply settings for paying subscribers. Premium users can now restrict comments to their “second-degree connections,” a move intended to expand audience participation while maintaining a degree of protection against bot-driven spam and harassment from unknown accounts. These updates reflect X’s ongoing strategy to provide more granular control to its creator community while leveraging AI to enhance the overall user experience.
